I have spoken and written much about my good friend and spiritual father, Msgr Thomas Wells, who was killed ten years ago. I came across three videos on youtube with Fr Wells which are below; they are taped one month before he died. It's a great gift and treat for those of us who knew him to see and hear him again. For you students, I hope you get some sense (as much as video can provide) of his holiness, brilliance, humor, and love for Jesus and His people. Btw, if you pay attention to his homily, you will probably notice that he is speaking more to the parents than to the kids...genius.

Msgr. Wells had a pretty good way with the kids, but I noticed that one of the parents to whom he was really speaking didn't seem to get the "pay attention" memo. :)
Very cool video!
Hi Everybody,
Everybody who knows me knows I am a "HUGE" hockey fan. Many years ago when I was living in Boston I was in a grocery store, and in walked Bobby Orr!!!! I took one look and nearly dropped the eggs I was holding! I rushed towards him along with a lot of other people to get his autograph, touch his sleeve anything (Touch his sleeve? What was I thinking?).
Bobby Orr will be one of the greatest hockey players in history but he doesn't come close to what Jesus did for us. Die for "OUR" sins. We should be rushing to Mass ever week for our spiritual benefit. I know I haven't been.
I am a teacher of young children and last week I gave them a writing assignment of writing down their New Year's resolutions. What they wrote was cute. "Eat my vegetables." "Be good for the rest of my life." etc. By reading what they wrote got me thinking about my own resolutions. Of course I have the ones that most people have. " Exercise more." "Lose weight." But what about my spiritual life? So I started reading Fr. G's blog and read in a past post (sorry the date escapes me) that going to Mass every week was non-negotiable. "It was?" I thought to myself. I remeber years before when I was whining about going to Mass every week Fr.G who was a deacon back then told a group of us that going to Mass was only one hour a "week". I never thought about it like that. I have spent more time watching hockey. I can tell you anything about my team from the 1960s on but when it comes to my faith I will probably look at you blankly. A pretty sad commentary and it makes me feel like a heel. I started thinking about all the blessings I have had and thought I can't spend one hour a week with Jesus? Of course I can! So for this New Year I am making the resolution that I will be going to Mass every week.
Fr. Greg, this blog is valuable for the young and the young at heart who want to have a strong Catholic faith. Thank you for having it!
Hi Its me again,
I was listening to the Catholic radio station yesterday afternoon 1160 am. I recommend for everybody esp. those who are returning to the faith. The discussion was on contraceptives. I know this was discussed in the past but I wanted to make a comment on this as a woman. I have been on contraceptives for 13 years for a totally different reason. I gave it up for the last two years. What I heard on the radio was that it causes breast cancer. I know I should have read the little paper that comes with prescriptions but I felt that my doctor should have told me up front knowing that there is cancer in my family-my uncle, aunts, grandfather and nephew all died from this and both my parents had it but thanks to God they are both fine. There are so many young women out there that don't have the facts and should be told. There is a reason why the church teaches what it does. Its time we stop and listen!
